A WEEKEND IN MONTREAL

August 26, 2020

Good Morning from Canada!

So, Montreal in the winter is, let’s just say, FREEZING! I would definitely recommend visiting in the summer but there is still lots to do and see in the winter, just make sure you bring a jacket or three in my case.

When I visited Montreal I was actually just visiting my mom’s cousin in upstate New York. She had the great idea of driving up to Montreal for the weekend and it was so worth it. I speak french and when I arrived I was so excited to use it since it had been a long time. Many people have told me Canadian French and France French are very different but I never understood. I was quickly proven that that was true. (plus I was a bit rusty) It was a lot harder to understand than I had originally thought.

We stayed in an Airbnb while we were there which was the perfect size and location to walk to almost everything we wanted in the area. Some of the things we did include…

The Ferris Wheel

Notre Dame

Although it is nothing compared to Notre Dame in Paris, it was an amazing church. It was so cool to see and was right in the center of the city so it was nice to walk around that area.

Aura – Light Show

This is a light show that is put on inside of Notre Dame. It is a 10/10 must see. The show was so good and very well done! I would recomend that everyone go check it out for yourself.

Mont-Royal

This is a very popular hike to do in the summer. Despite freezing cold temperatures there was still many people making the trek up the stairs to the top, including my cousin and I. The stairs weren’t too bad but the winter months were not the best time to go because at the top there is lots of trails to walk around on that take you to a lake and all kinds of stuff but it was a bit chilly. The view of the city was worth it though.

China Town

This was the first china town I have ever been to, so for me it was quite exciting. Im not sure how it compares to other china towns but it was fun to check out and buy for candy that my friend from Japan gave me and I have been dying to find in the Unite States.

Shopping

There are lots of botiques and other shops around the main town which are worth checking out.

Ate Yummy Food

Not only is there shopping but also some super good food that you can’t pass up. I even got to try Poutine for the first time. If you don’t know what that is, it is a famous Canadian dish made up of fries with a special gravy like sauce on top. 10/10!

I hope that Montreal treats you well and is a bit warmer than when I went 🙂

See You Soon

xoxo Gina
