ITALIAN SWITZERLAND

July 4, 2019

Hallo vo d Schwiz!

Fun Fact: Switzerland has four official languages and all of them have a region in which they are spoken. The main language is Swiss German and it is spoken in most of Switzerland. There is also Franch, Italian, and Romansch. Romansch is the oldest language and most people who speak this know at least one of the other three as well. Also in many schools, despite most people speaking Swiss German at home and with their friends, teach in regular German.

One region that I particularly loved was the Italian Speaking part. If I am being honest it really made me feel as if I were back in Italy. The scenery was gorgeous and the towns were as cute as they get.

Ascona

Ascona is located in the south of Switzerland and is one of the most gorgeous towns I have ever seen. Surrounded by mountains with a small lake in the middle make for a perfect place to have a relaxing day. There are so many amazing restaurants all around the city or you can walk all around the lake so I highly recommend packing a lunch and having a little picnic. This town is also a great place to get some gelato to cool off from the hot summer sun.

Locarno

This is another town not too far from Ascona with the same colorful buildings and gorgeous mountain backdrop. The whole city was ready to be photographed. From the colorful buildings to the gorgeous mountains you won’t be disappointed. This town is much bigger than Ascona and in the summer (I went mid-July) they have a Ferris wheel with a ton of food trucks and at night they have live music and some larger concerts. The city is also a great place to do some shopping and grab some food as well.

Ponte Brolla

This small stop is located outside of Locarno and can be accessed by taking public transportation from Locarno. There is not much to do in this town as there are just houses but a short hike will bring you to Valle Maggia. This picture perfect spot has a gorgeous bridge and a small waterfall. The water was cold but very refreshing to take a swim on a hot summer day. There is also a beach/swimming area there but it gets very crowded. I recommend going around the rocks for a quieter spot to relax. There was also a lot of cliff jumping but some of the areas can be shallow so make sure you look where you are jumping.
