BUDAPEST

Helló Magyarországról!

Budapest has been one of my favorite cities in Europe. It has a small town city feel. I loved everything about this city from the food to the culture to the beautiful architecture. Also coming from America, Hungary is a fairly cheap country.   Budapest actually used to be two separate cities divided by the river but now have evolved into one city as we know today.

Here are my favorite places that I visited in Budapest.

1. Fisherman’s Bastion

The Halaszbastya or Fishermans Bastion was built to be like a fairy tale and it sure lives up to that standard. The structure was inspired by the medieval times when the first Hungarian King ruled.  The view is amazing and there are plenty of shops and places around here to catch a bite to eat.

2. The Szechenyi Chain Bridge

This is the first bridge to connect to old cities Buda and Pest. As the city became one many other bridges were built but this one remains as the most elaborate and most traveled.

3. Buda Castle

This is something you could spend the whole day walking through if it is what you are interested in. The castle is beautiful both inside and out. Along with its amazing architecture, it sits at the top of the city for the best view in Budapest. The Castle is free to walk around outside but you will need a pass if you want to explore the inside.

4. St. Stephen’s Basilica

This is the most famous basilica in Budapest and is definitely one to check out. It is free to walk inside but if you would like to climb the tower it will cost about $2. Surrounding the Basilica are many restaurants and shops.

When looking at the basilica from where I am standing in the picture above, on the corner to the right, there is a vegan ice cream place that makes flowers with the ice cream. It is the best flower ice cream I’ve ever had for a fair price as well, so be sure to grab some and enjoy the amazing view.

5. Széchenyi Thermal Bath

This is a must see in Budapest. It is the best place to relax for a few hours. There are two baths with plenty of places to relax and take in the sun. If you go earlier in the morning you will notice that there will be fewer tourists and more locals. (in my case many elderly playing chess on the side of the baths. I spent a few hours there relaxing and even though it is something pricier in Budapest it was well worth it.

6. Market Place

This is a great place if you are looking for souvenirs or some authentic food or clothing made by the locals. In Budapest embroidered things were very popular and are everywhere throughout the market so be sure to pick something authentic up while you are there.

I hope you enjoy your time in Budapest as much as I did!

Hamarosan találkozunk!

xoxo Gina
