Bonjour France,
The World Cup is something that is held up on a pedestal throughout the world. Everyone strives to have their country win the ultimate soccer championship. Billions of people tune in each year to watch their favorite countries and players compete to be the best soccer team in the world. Unfortunately, the United States came closest to winning last in 1930 finishing in 3rd. Lucky for me this year I was rooting for France!
The final math ended up being while I was in Paris, France with France playing Croatia for the championship. I was so happy to be a part of this awesome day. Although I was not at the actual game the hype in Paris was incredible. The minute the sun rose everyone was getting ready to cheer on their country. At just 10 am my French friend and I were already getting dressed in red white and blue with the flag painted on our face.
When we go on the subway to go to the restaurant we were watching the game at, everyone was going WILD! People were banging on the subway carts chanting and cheering with crazy red white and blue hair and flags and facepaint the whole shebang. The atmosphere alone was amazing everyone was on cloud 9 just thinking about the game starting in 6 hours!
We got to the restaurant 6 hours early just so we could have a place to sit down. They were also screening the game at the Av. Champs-Élysées and the Eiffel Tower as well but we didn’t want to go since they were already full at 8 am.
After waiting for a mere six-hours the game finally began. Every point that we won everyone stood up yelling and screaming for their team! It was so much fun pretending I was French for the day and going crazy with the locals.
In the end France WON! Everyone was going crazy during the game but after winning, people were climbing street lights and hanging out of their cars honk as they go down the street. People were waving their flags and drinking lots to celebrate their second World Cup Final.
Even though I am not a sports fan in any way and don’t usually care, I am so happy that I was in France to experience this because it was one of my favorite memories while traveling through Europe.
I hope to one day go to the actual world cup final wherever it may be.
à bientôt
xoxo Gina
