The first pizza made is was the Margherita, named after Queen Margherita. This simple pizza topped with tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil is the perfect combination. These three things also were used to represent the colors of the Italian flag. The simple pizza became a tourist food in poorer areas of Naples. Many people would go there in search of this uniques food.
As time went on pizza started to grow and expand to other areas of the country and soon after became one of the most popular dishes in Italy and today all over the world. Pizza has turned into such a huge industry it is incredible. There are people putting anything and everything on top of their pizza. There are even people putting pineapples on pizza, which is not Italian and most Italians hate this thought.
There is frozen pizza for convenience and pizza chains even delivering it to your house. Just think about how many pizzas you eat in a month or just have in your freezer.
