NEW FRIENDS AND A BIT OF ITALIAN

July 20, 2018

Siena Food and Culture you have treated me well. My life is not like the typical eighteen-year-olds. I dropped out of traditional college after one semester and transferred to UMB pursuing a degree through the online program from my home in Wisconsin. This has been the best decision of my life but is not the point of this post.

During the school year, I worked full time, travels once a month, and did school. All semester I was getting emails to go to Ireland and I wanted to go on the exchange so bad but the Ireland trip was the same time I had already planned to visit my friend in Switzerland and my Host Family in France. Then one day I got an email linking to the study abroad page and came a crossed the Italian Food and Culture Program.

With one day left to apply, I decided why not and quickly threw everything together hoping I would get accepted and spend two weeks in my favorite country learning Italian and how to cook Italian food.

Then after being accepted I flew out to Boston for orientation and knew right then and there I have made the right decision. I love meeting new people and am a very social person so going to school online I do not have this but this was a great opportunity to meet some people and learn a few things along the way.

I thought I would love Italy but I enjoyed it way more than I expected. From learning Italian in the morning, cooking amazing meals at night, and making friends in between, it was the perfect start to my summer!

I had so much learning to cook and messing around in the kitchen. The field trips to both Florence and Rome were also a blast and the time just hanging around the villa all added up to make a great trip. I had so much fun with this group of people and can’t wait to go back to Boston.

I would 100% recommend the program to others and if they do it for sure sign up for the language class.
