HIKING IN NORTHERN ILLINOIS

March 20, 2018

Good Morning from Northern Illinois!

Hiking is one of my favorite things to do. You can get in touch with nature, get some exercise and even relax for a picnic or chill in a hammock in the middle of nowhere. There is nothing better than a day filled with hiking in the most beautiful places.

So pack some snacks a water and get out there. Here are some of the best place to hike in Northern Illinois.

1. Starved Rock State Park

There are many different trails in the Park. Ranging from just 0.3 miles to 5 miles long. There are altogether 13 miles of trails so you will be able to spend lots of time exploring here.  Along with the beautiful trails are waterfalls and different lookouts throughout the park.

2. Mississippi Palisades State Park

This Park has three different trails ranging from 1 mile to 3.5 miles. The hike leads to an overlook. The trails are well marked and easy to walk on. It is not a vigorous hike so it is perfect for any level of hikers.

3. Matthiessen State Park

With 5 miles of well-marked trails that lead to the Illinois River and out to beautiful canyons it is a place not to miss. It is located right next to Starved Rock State Park so be sure to check them both out.

4. Castle Rock State Park

This 2,000-acre park is filled with things to do. Other than just hiking there is also camping and activities in the river. If you are looking for a good place to both hike and camp this is definitely the spot to do so.

5. Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve

This park is filled with glacier-formed woods, trails, and lakes. There are trails for hiking lead to waterfalls and are well maintained. The hike is great for all ages and beautiful all year round.

Let me know if I missed any great places to hike in Northern Illinois.

See you soon!

xoxo Gina
