A neighboring city and former rival of Siena, Florence is definitely a place to visit in Italy. The city once has walls like Siena but has since removed them. Florence has been one of the top destinations for tourists because of its incredible artwork and beautiful architecture.
The Duomo
The Cathedral was built in the 7th century and like Siena made out of marble. You will also notice the similarity in cathedrals since Siena and Florence were competing to have the big and better one. The church took two centuries to be considered finish. You can see the mosaic marble floor on the inside and gorgeous artwork along the walls and on the ceiling.
The Uffizi
This is one of the museums in Florence. It is a great place to take in all of the gorgeous artwork from the renaissance time. One of the most famous works of art in this museum is the ‘Birth of Venus’ but Botticelli.
Piazzale Michelangelo
From here you can see the best view of all the city. From here you are able to see all of Florence. From this old city wall, you can see the Uffizi, the Duomo on the other side of the river, and the rest of Florence.
Mercato Centrale
This is the best place to grab a bite to eat. It is two floors filled with all kinds of food that you don’t want to miss. They have all kinds of food from the typical Italian food of pasta and pizza, to one of their specialties cow stomachs.
Ponte Vecchio
This stone bridge is famous to Florence. It now has some shops and restaurants but in the olden days, it was lined with butchers. It was over the rivers so that there was not a big mess to clean up and things could just fall into the river below.
