Hello,
My family and I were staying in Fort Collins, CO. There came a day that we didn’t know what we wanted to do so we decided that since Cheyenne, WY was only a one-hour drive, we should spend the day there. We were crunched on time, yet we had an awesome day. So, with that being said, here are some things that you can do if you only have one day in Cheyenne you can make it to the best spots. And if you happen to have more time you can still check out these places because they are definitely worthwhile.
To start of the day, you can go to the Terry Bison Ranch. This bison ranch is not right in Cheyenne, but about 15 -20 minutes out of town. Although it is a little out of town there is no doubt in my mind it was worth it. They have activities for all ages, such as horseback riding, pony rides for the kids, ATV tours, and the bison train ride (my favorite). Although I did not go horseback riding or on the ATV tour, I am sure they are just as fun as the train ride I went on! The bison train ride was super cool! It is about 30 minutes long on a small, open-cart train. When you arrive you can buy bison food and then when the train stops halfway through you will be able to hand feed the Bison. This is something I don’t think you will get to go anywhere else. It was a strange thing to feed the bison. Their tounges were really long and black and they took these huge pellet food really nice. I would not pass up this train ride if you end up going here. Then when you finish walking around the ranch, riding horses or feeding the bison you can go to their restaurant and eat their famous bison burgers. This makes a great lunch since it is good food and convenient. Also If you would like a place to stay they have small cabins and an RV Park where you can stay.
After you fill your stomach with some yummy food for lunch, you can go down to the Cheyenne Depot Plaza. (linked is the list of events going on) This is the center of town. Here, there are all kinds of events such as concerts, markets and other fun things that are happening all different times of the day, so you can plan when is the best time for you to go here. (keep in mind all of these activities are arrangeable to fit your schedule) When I was here, unfortunately, there was nothing going on but nearby is the Depot Museum and the State Capital that you can also check out if there are no events or you just have extra time.
Last, you need something for dinner. Right near the Depot Plaza is a get place to eat called The Albany. They have been in Cheyenne for 75 years and it was the best food I had in a while. The service was great and the food even better. I would one hundred percent recommend it! I would always recommend going somewhere that you don’t have in your hometown and now I wish I had this restaurant back home.
After dinner, you can visit the Cheyenne Botanical Gardens. These gardens are completely free and extremely beautiful. They are so well taken care of and definitely beat the botanical garden in my city that you do have to pay for. They also have a children’s garden that has so many things to do from panning for gold, playing in the pond, jumping rope or hula hooping, to building blocks or giant Jenga.
Last, there is a beach very close to the botanical gardens in which you might be able to catch the sunset or go for a little swim if it is warm but still. So after this long day, I hope that you enjoyed your day in Cheyenne, Wyoming!
