LANGUAGE CLASS

July 31, 2018

While in Italy every morning I woke up and went to the language class for four hours. I was an exchange student in France during high school so I was ready to take Italian on for two weeks and learn as much as possible.

I have never taken Italian before but since I know French, Italian was quite easy for me. The first half of the class was grammar and vocabulary then there was a thirty-minute break and we started the section of putting out Italian to use. I loved the class so much. It was a great way to start the morning and was a fun light-hearted class.

I loved how the teacher only spoke in Italian even though no one in the class knew any Italian because this is the best way to learn. Full immersion will teach you so much more and faster than any other way. Before setting off to France, I had three years of French in high school. After arriving in France, I realized that they spoke at a thousand miles an hour with all kinds of slang and my three years felt like only three days. After being fully immersed in the language in just two short months I was able to understand everything being said and started to become conversational. After six months I was not fluent but was almost there.

Now two weeks is not nearly enough to become fluent but for the students that were staying there for a much longer time by the time, they leave they should have a decent grasp of Italian and I love that. I felt as if the class was a great thing to be a part of and everyone should take it because why not?
