Vatican City, although located just outside of Rome, Italy is actually considered to be its own country. It is even considered the smallest country in the world and only has a population of about 500 people. Vatican City is home to the Vatican museum and the Pope. Vatican City has its own post system and also issues its own passports. You can also find the pope on the one-euro coins for Vatican City and are a great caught for collectors.

The Vatican museum is filled with ancient Roman painting and sculptures. This museum is so large that they say if you spend only one minute at each work of art it will take you four years to see all of them. So, set out lots of time to see the museum. Also, it is best if you book reservations in advanced because the line to get in can take on average four hours if not more.

Fun Fact: Outside of the Vatican are a circle center lined with rows of pillars. If you stand at a certain point in front of the fountain, all of these pillars will align and look as if there is only one row.

Another great sight to see in the Vatican City is St. Peters Basilica. Built during the renaissance time this has become one of the most famous churches in the world. Many popes have been buried here and other saints. It’s gorgeous architecture and magnificent paintings make the church a top site to see.
